Square Design Guild | Squarespace Site Showcase: Omega Sigma Chi Sorority | Sorority Website on Pacific

Template Chosen: Pacific

Why did you choose that template?: Pacific gave us options for index pages and full width banner images, which were essential to this project. The sorority’s old website had more than a dozen pages, and we wanted to slim things down to just a handful of pages. With this in mind, we still wanted to get the information across clearly. Pacific allowed for a great deal of customization to ensure we could include a lot of information in an easy-to-consume manner.

What was the Client's Objective?: The sorority's main objective was to get a website the organization could be proud to display, and stray away from the typical sorority website look.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: This one was really fun as I loved the girls' style, and I was able to complete their branding for them as well. This meant I could ensure consistency from brand to website. With an organization of MANY girls, it would be hard to take feedback from 50+ people throughout the process. The organizations President and I worked together closely to complete the site, and she was the one to gather preferences from sisters, instead of me talking with 50+ girls at once.

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: This website is the farthest thing from your typical sorority website, and that’s exactly what we wanted. It’s sorority style; modernized! We slimmed down the navigation, kept things clean and strayed from crazy bells and whistles you find on many sorority websites these days. This website stands apart for it’s clean look, use of whitespace & straightforward layout.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: We used a little CSS here and there to change some inherent template styles that were making things look a little cluttered.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:
Video banner background
Custom buttons & custom styled icons
Jump to anchor links to navigate within some of the longer pages
