Client Site Description: Fashion and Lifestyle
Template Chosen: Brine
Why did you choose that template?: Brine has always been my go-to template because of its flexibility and large amounts of ways you can style the site without code. My primary goal is to always make the site as editable as possible for my clients so that if they need to make a change to the site, they don't have to dig into code or re-hire me or another web designer to do it!
What was the Client's Objective?: Kristin wanted to showcase her products in a way that is eye-catching and that draws in her ideal customer, all while instilling the company mission of empowering women to make them feel beautiful, strong and worthy.
Tell us a bit about the design process?: A majority of the design process was working with the actual products themselves in both a retail and wholesale capacity! Kristin wanted to organize her jewelry by both category and collection, so each product needed to be properly re-formatted and labeled. After this was done, it was just a matter of adding in her beautiful imagery and honing in a bit on the copy!
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: Birds Tail Designs has a LOT of products, so making sure that items were easy to find was key, all while providing the customer with an easy way to browse the various types of products by either category or collection. I also added a lot of layered imagery, making the photography stand out and breaking up the page!
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: This particular site has a large amount of CSS, only because the client had very specific requests and functionality that she was looking for. I added in scrolling words on the homepage, a back-to-top button, sidebars on the blog, retail and wholesale pages, custom fonts, and specific styling just for mobile and tablet!
What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: 1. The custom sidebars added to the retail page, blog page and wholesale page 2. The color-blocked stacked footer: the colors flow right into each other and make it really easy to navigate 3. Layered imagery throughout the site, giving each page dimension and making the photography pop even more
