Site Showcase | Black Tie Portraits

Square Design Guild | Squarespace Site Showcase | Black Tie Portraits by Jodi Neufeld | Bedford Template

Template Chosen: Bedford

Why did you choose that template?: The client had already set up a Squarespace account and chosen that template himself. He had a friend already using it that recommended it. He really liked the banner slideshow option for his home page to showcase his photos.

What was the Client's Objective?: He had a previous site that was very out of date. It was not mobile responsive and it was on Squarespace. He was not happy with it and based on his friends recommendation decided to go with Squarespace.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: It was more a matter of updating the site to be modern. We imported his Wordpress site and kept the site map somewhat the same. With the beautiful full width pages on Squarespace we were able to improve the design dramatically and showcase his images.

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: Presenting his content in a thoughtful, intentional way so that it flowed and was easy to navigate. Use of custom grid blocks and keeping the layout consistent on all the service pages.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: I used custom CSS to style gallery grid blocks and summary blocks.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: The client wanted to incorporate his photo collages so that was a unique feature for this site. Using the font "Oswald" suited his site and really enhanced it. He had also been struggling with how to display all his photography "sub-services" so I proposed using gallery blocks for each service and creating a custom style for them.
