Site Showcase: Bravebird Studio

Client's Site Description: Business and Portfolio website

Template Chosen: Juke

Why did you choose that template?: I generally stick with the Brine family of templates and Juke spoke to me when I was choosing my own site template.

What was the Client's Objective?: I wanted a site where I could really show off some of the great design features of Squarespace and the Brine family has the most options and flexibility.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: I used the same process on myself as I do with clients. I answered questions about my ideal client and goals, I created a Pinterest inspiration board and mood board. And I designed the website with all of that as my guide. This site took a little longer than the usual two weeks though because I was responsible for all of the content creation (images and copy). ;)

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: I wanted to showcase my specific aesthetic and style while still keeping the website clean, modern, and easy-to-navigate. I used custom branding elements for originality and personalization.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: Yes, lots. Because this was my website, I used CSS a little more than I do for clients. I customized things like the "read more" link on blog posts, button hover colors, and navigation links. I also added an accordion FAQ section, a text background color for my packages, and a custom "Pin It" button to blog images.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: Parallax scrolling, summary blocks for testimonials and related blog posts, and a sidebar plugin for my blog page. (When is Brine going to offer a sidebar?!)

Anything else you want us to know about the site?: I had a lot of fun designing this website and learned A LOT too!

Vendors used?: I produced all of the photography for the site. I used a remote shutter release for my About page header and all of the stock photography throughout the site is mine. In fact, I will be adding a Stock Shop to the Bravebird website soon!
