Site Showcase: Corio
Samantha constantly blows my mind in terms of creativity for her clients on Squarespace. Here the homepage and footer are examples of her client wanting to add in movement in some form, and taking the content and then letting the idea just flow. Once she had the idea of movement, she integrated that idea into the image, text and layout. It's a great example of allowing creativity to happen for your client!
Client Site Description: Professional Website
Template Chosen: Stella (brine family)
Why did you choose that template?: I love the brine family. I knew I'd be using a Brine family template and thought I'd try one of the new ones.
What was the Client's Objective?: Elle wanted to promote her fitness classes and specifically encourage new teachers to join the training program.
Tell us a bit about the design process?: Elle had just had her branding done but felt like it wasn't connecting to her audience. So we revamped everything but the logo and started with a fresh site design.
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: The goal for this site was to blend a cool, refined styling with the feeling of movement. The workouts are sort of a barre, dance blend, so the design was intended to reflect both of these personalities as well.
The primarily black and white color palette keeps it cool and refined. But we needed to show dance fitness + movement... sans neon spandex. For the movement, I pulled in video features that keep the overall design dynamic. I also styled the images (and some videos) to be seen through 'windows' that are offset. I think this lends a feeling of movement even though they are static images.
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: Of course!
One of the first bits of code written was to make the 'interested in becoming an instructor' navigation into a tab-like button. I really wanted to set this option apart from the other options.
The other coded bits include an image change on hover (again to capture the idea of motion), button styling, and text block stylings.
What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:
1. the recurring image 'windows'
2. video details
3. fun button styles
