I hope everyone's fall has been going great. One of the things we have been working on a lot here as members is the Brine Template. As one of the most versatile and flexible squarespace templates, we had a full class on how to really take advantage of the template this past month.


One of the biggest components was creating that full width slideshow that is lacking in the gallery functions. With the flexibility AND gallery functions galore, you can really make Brine what you want. No surprise one of our members took that lesson and flew with it! She did an amazing job of incorporation little details we love! Full width instagram. Yes please. The split navigation ALSO amazing.


We also are a huge fan of the slider on the bottom of the home page with the little travel facts! Such a great way to bring personality to a website! Congrats Dannie on the relaunch :)

Template Chosen: Rally (Brine)

Why did you choose that template?: I wanted a template that was flexible enough to allow for unique design elements to be featured but clean enough that the editorial look/feel of the branding would still be the main focus. I knew (through the Squarespace Design Guild) that Brine templates offer a perfect marriage of these traits and chose Rally as a result.

What was the Client's Objective?: The primary objective was to bring all three of my businesses under one roof and one brand.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: Designing one site for what was originally three separate websites with three separate brands was no easy task. The first goal was to find consistencies across the brands that could be used to unify them together without removing from what makes them unique. After we identified points of intersection, we worked on designing a site that essentially had three homes. The navigation across the top pays homage to the three original brands, with "Strategy" standing for what was LE Consulting, "Community" standing for what was The Side Hustle Gal, and "Education" standing for what was the Styled Marketing Course.

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: There are a lot of beautiful bright and colorful websites out there on the market today and while I'm passionate about that kind of design, it doesn't fit me and my brand. For this site, we went dark and moody with a base of white so as to not feel too dark. The lemon in the logo and the lemon imagery throughout (even when black and white) keeps things lighter/brighter as well, so as to not entirely head to the dark side as well.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: I used the SSDG lesson on creating a full width slider to do the homepage for the site, as well as the same lesson for designing the site footer. Both of these elements help bring forward that strong editorial aspect with the bolder styling of the dark colors.

The site also uses custom CSS throughout to change the vast majority of the photos to black and white (and then color on hover). This was done for visual consistency throughout the site while still wanting to reflect/honor the original images themselves.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: The two images in the banner sliders showcase the parallels between the branding and my passion for travel. Using travel-related language here allows for travel messaging throughout the site and an infusion of my own personality in the copy.

The use of anchor links allows me to drive visitors to specific places on each page when they click on certain links, allowing for a better funnel from cold lead to inquiry.

The use of lowercase headers throughout maintains a consistent look and feel with the logo header.

Anything else you want us to know about the site?: I also incorporated a full width slideshow next to the footer that allowed me to add a bit more about my love of travel to the site!
