Site Showcase: Gabriela Gandara Photography

Courtney is one of my favorite designers for photographers out there! As a photographer herself, she really can see someone's portfolio and help them come to life in their website. Another smash hit!

Client Site Description: Photography Portfolio

Template Chosen: Pacific

Why did you choose that template?: Gabriela's site was built with the Pacific template. Pacific is such a solid choice for photographers. With Gabriela, I wanted something that could give us a unique way to have an impactful first impression, and the full width gallery grid used on her home and about pages are the main reason why I chose it.

What was the Client's Objective?: Gabriela wanted to update her website, but also move to a platform that would be easy to manage and maintain after she becomes a mom in early 2018!

Tell us a bit about the design process?: Gabriela already had her branding in place, so our work together was just on her website. I was so inspired by her colorful, bold, bright imagery and the website was built in a way that showcases both her work, and spunky personality!

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: The homepage grid was a unique way to showcase Gabriela's fun and bright personality in a way that was visually impactful, and also functional for her potential clients. Her love of color and people is infused throughout the website.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: Yes! We used custom CSS to change her about page, and also modified the mobile template, as mobile usability was extremely important to her. We also creatively used the page canvas backgrounds to create a layered look that you don't typically find on a Squarespace website.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: Our top three creative features are the full width gallery grid used as menu navigation, the use of index page backgrounds to create layers, and the use of imagery and color to showcase her personality as a photographer and artist.

Anything else you want us to know about the site?: Our goal with this site was to upgrade Gabriela's look while giving her something that would be easy to maintain. She was previously using a platform that required blogging and managing the website through multiple portals. She now has a new sleek website that she can manage in one place!
