Site Showcase: Gather & Stay
Want to see a blog that takes it to the next level? Look no further my friends! We love how Alice of Colabora Collective has made this blog look so high end with parallax, full-width, hi-res banner images. Check out the links at the bottom of the post to explore the blog and more of Colabora Collaborative's work!
Template Chosen: Rally (Brine)
Why did you choose that template?: Rally is in the Brine family, much like many of my other favourite templates. I liked the different ways blog posts were featured as an inspiration. I usually delete all demo content and start from scratch regardless, but it was good to have an idea of what's possible.
What was the Client's Objective?: To create a space to hold all of her recipes, projects, thoughts, events & coaching business.
Tell us a bit about the design process?: I do what I call 'Slow Branding'. We worked for over half a year to really home in on the essence of her brand and a true brand story that would be the perfect vessel for her work & creative output. Because she is building a house from scratch with her partner, the idea of a home really resonated and is a no-brainer in hindsight, because of all of the ways this can expand and all of her many ideas and collaborations have a spot where they fit perfectly.
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: Bringing Kristin's BIG vision, her massive brand world into a simple and incredibly flexible concept really sparked her creativity. I work with my clients collaboratively, and it is just such a joy to see what our work has opened up for her to explore on her own. Mission accomplished! *dusts off shoulders* - and we are just at the beginning!
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: I added one of my favourite features which is a footer background image as an additional brand element and an anchor at the end of each page. In addition to the font library already available I added a custom font for our headlines.
What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:
A compelling, flexible logo that really speaks volumes.
Banners, banners, banners as a preview for pages and full bleed images as backgrounds.
Always the same visual language & 'stamp' for each of the 'room names' to create consistency.
Anything else you want us to know about the site?: This is actually just the beginning, we are going to be launching each room individually over the next few months (and adding on!!)
Kristin hired a copywriter to help with the program pages: Stephanie Bowen @ www.raincitywriting.com
The imagery was almost exclusively from Unsplash, with a couple from Creative Market.
