Site Showcase: Heidi Brockmyre

Online courses + education sites are notoriously difficult, there's just so much information to organize and design, but Jodi is a pro, and we are loving the pattern and color in this great site for Heidi Brockmyre. 


Template Chosen: Rally

Why did you choose that template?: There were so many reasons! The flexibility of the template was important for the footer area as we had pages where we changed which footers were being displayed. This site also has multiple sales pages so I was able to easily remove the header and footers on all the sales pages. We also wanted to the ability to change the background of different sections by adding in background colors or images.

What was the Client's Objective?: She wanted a site that could work for showcasing her online courses as well as her physical clinic. Her previous site had lots of testimonials, but they were all images and she wanted to make sure she could take advantage of SEO by making these text options on a new site.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: Since this was a redesign of a popular live site, I did an extensive redesign on a trial site and copied over all of her content. I switched templates and added in all of the custom CSS. We ended up restructuring the site and she worked with a copywriter to ensure it all flowed wonderfully. 

When it was approved I moved all of the content back to her new site and installed the new template there.

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: The restructuring of the site helped to clearly differentiate the clients different services and makes it easy for her clients to work with her. The use of index pages breaks out the content into readable chunks as the pages are very long.

The client wanted to highlight her blog page in a unique way by combining her blog posts and videos by category so we used summary blocks to do this and the use of category tags.

We made sure that all photos included text that was searchable by google - no photoshop images with text!

There were many sales pages that we designed at the same time and we were able to keep them consistent looking with the rest of the site, but with their own unique elements as well. One of these can be found here:

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: Yes there was a lot of CSS! Header and footer cusomizations, customizations of all the image blocks, a testimonial gallery that auto scrolls etc.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:

 1. We highlighted testimonials using a variety of methods: a summary block that auto scrolls, summary blocks that are displayed with graphic effects and the use of Squarespace image blocks for testimonies.

2. Customized footers that can be turned on and off by page.

3. Index pages to break up the long web pages.
