Template Chosen: Shift
Why did you choose that template?: Keithan wanted a template that would be heavy on the visual side of things. His brand motto is "See One, Be One" so naturally we wanted to do a lot more "showing" than we did "telling". Shift gave us a lot of flexibility in terms of leaning on the rich blues and masculine themes of his brand.
What was the Client's Objective?: Keithan wanted to position himself as an experienced Motivational Speaker in advance of a 2018 State Senate bid.
Tell us a bit about the design process?: We went through a couple rounds of wireframes before we nailed down a site design. It was important to Keithan that his brand come across as bold and thought provoking. He's also an outgoing and somewhat rambunctious man working in a traditionally conservative field - we wanted to strike a balance between innovation and tradition. He also has a lot of media content (photos, videos, etc.) and it was important that we were able to showcase those well.
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: The powerful imagery we selected with the blue overlay really tells Keithan's story. He grew up on the streets of south Chicago and is a foster father to his brothers. He's also an incredibly successful lawyer with a loving wife and son. The imagery strikes a balance between that raw Chicago life and the love and success he feels blessed to have.
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: We did upload a custom font (Dolce Vita) and used some custom CSS for the testimonials we included. It was important to Keithan that we have some unique design elements and adding custom CSS allowed us to "break out of the mold" when it came to design and look/feel.
What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:
+ Custom Font. The use of Dolce Vita throughout the site lends an additional layer of masculinity to what could be considered a more "feminine" design (smooth scrolling and lots of white space).
+ Blue Overlay: The heavy use of Keithan's blue brand color helps encourage feelings of sadness and understanding which make his powerful life story and experiences stand out even more prominently.
+ H3 Text: We wanted to consistently call out Keithan's motto - "See One, Be One." To do this, we've used H3 text in that branded blue to remind visitors that you have the power to take hold of your own destiny.
