Site Showcase: Maece S. Design

Always fun being able to collaborate with other creatives and designers in the field - this one is a great example of how to really showcase your brand and portfolio in Squarespace without it screaming "this is a squarespace portfolio".  Enjoy all the little custom touches in this site :)

Client Site Description: Design Portfolio

Template Chosen: Brine

Why did you choose that template?: Creating a dynamic and custom design portfolio that displayed Maece's portfolio in a way that was easy to browse, but also showcased her design aesthetic throughout.

What was the Client's Objective?: As a brand and web designer myself, I am always flattered when another designer is looking for a web design. Together with Maece's branding, and custom squarespace design, we were able to take what she does best and let it shine on her site, instead of allowing the platform show through. Now her brand and design agency's style is perfectly reflected in each part of her site.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: Collaborating with another designer was such a fantastic process! It's always nice when you can really work on design details, as well as functionality with a client. A collaborative design process is hard to accomplish - but can work out if you balance out each other's specialties!

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: Layout and functionality was a huge factor in our process, we really wanted to be sure that not only did her portfolio look good the day we launched, but as her company goes that it can change and mold. This is one big reason we went for the shop portfolio style in the brine template. It allows for the content to have so much detail and layout possibilities with some css. Like the header image style being 100% width and then using lightbox galleries underneath for more info. This also makes creating a template to add further work a breeze with the product duplication abilities.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: No custom development, but as usual you will see CSS that pulls away from the traditional Squarespace layouts - and default settings allowing us to really look a the design and not "oh there's a squarespace button or product". I am a huge fan of the testimonial section - on a gorgeous textured background and custom next /previous buttons, you immediately think - "wait is this squarespace"!?

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:

Integrating Maece's brandinng into each element of the site - from custom pattern in footer to banners on the top of the pages integrated with carousel icons to always center across the content.

Using the product-portfolio style design for her case studies and work, we can create dynamic layout with structure that also are easy to duplicate for the client.

Adding in overlapping graphics in places to pull the eye across the page, from the tabs on the portfolio pages to the icon in the footer.
