Client Site Description: Professional Website
Template Chosen: Brine
Why did you choose that template?: Massive amounts of functionality, especially with navigation and also utilising all the blog features to be able to turn it into a great showcase portfolio.
What was the Client's Objective?: The client wanted a site that reflected her beautiful design work, in a really fresh and on-brand style. She also wanted something easy to use and update herself.
Tell us a bit about the design process?: Collaborating with another designer was such a fantastic process! Mikaela got in touch wanting a refresh of her current site that had her work showcased, but wasn't aligned with her brand image. Because she already had her brand style guide, and a good idea of the flow, it was a really fun process on my end to bring that vision to life. Having all her brand assets and imagery at my fingertips made the site development a breeze, and involved working in her brand fonts, utilising some provided and sourced imagery, and creating some fun bespoke graphics to make the site super unique.
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: Depth and colour are two big things that really makes Mikaela's site pop. Because she has such a striking and unique colour palette, we wanted to really showcase those colours and make sure they were woven through the site. The pattern designs and layered imagery also differentiate her business because she is so on-brand and recognisable.
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: There is some really fun custom css I added to really personalise the site. The most important was the custom font that Mikaela uses throughout her brand, I knew we just HAD to have that on the website. I also used a snippet from Hive Social for some funky hexagonal bullet points that further reinforces her brand and takes them from standard to 100% awesome. What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: Creative use of pattern graphics over imagery
Layered collage-style bespoke graphics
Colour combinations that really pop
