Site Showcase: Modern Heirloom Books

Our fall season has begun for site showcase, and we are starting with one that reminds me of why I love the autumn. There’s a sense of family, tradition and savoring the last moments of warmth before winter coziness begins - and this site is a perfect combination of those things for a really beautiful business that focuses on savoring family moments.

Client Site Description: Professional Services

Template Chosen: Brine

Why did you choose that template?: We needed tons of customization for this site for beautiful index galleries and video, so we chose Brine for those mostly!

What was the Client's Objective?: To create a website that showcased what she was doing by being a show-piece for the concept of modern heirlooms.

Tell us a bit about the design process?:  The process for this site was taking the gorgeous colors and fonts that the client already had, and bringing them to a modern place - by combining the dark burgundy and serif fonts with modern neutrals. Our goal wasn’t to change the brand, but to update it so that it was really seen online in a different way.

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: Our goal was to tell a story through layout, just as the client does with the wonderful stories she collects from her clients. With that we wanted to showcase a high-end product, which I think we accomplished.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?:

We did quite a few!

1 - Custom width index pages - packed style was edited for a more custom look

2 - Adding typographical hierarchy throughout with fun elements (like the homepage WHO/)

3 - Adding play buttons on some index page gallery videos so that they showcased like the video block ones. (who else thinks they need this default!)

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:

The color palette

The typography between Europa and Bodoni styled traditional with a modern twist

The “tab” look on the blog layout!
