Site Showcase: #mydentity

Wondering what you can do with a fully custom developer site on Squarespace?!? Squareflair has created a great site for #mydentity's new ecommerce website. Showcasing a great site for their client's amazing work!

Client's Site Description: Professional Salon Products

Template Chosen: Barebones Developer Template

Why did you choose that template?: We wanted to have complete access and customization to every part of the site. We also used Shopify for all the e-commerce, so it was necessary to style the pages/menu to match across the two platforms.

What was the Client's Objective?: To launch the new (top secret) brand with a best-in-class web experience.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: Because the brand was a complete secret, we worked with the client's branding/product designers to set the proper tone for the site. I used Sketch app for all design work and exported designs to the Zeplin app so our Developer could work with the pixel-perfect spec, without having to have a copy of Sketch. Our Developer then worked within Shopify to bring the Shopify template to the same level of fidelity as the Squarespace template.

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: It was important to make an impact right out of the gate. The first section features a client-provided video, and the long-scroll "index" homepage was a big part of that experience. The site also needed to match the new product line.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: It was all custom development, built on the Squarespace Developer Platform.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: It was necessary that visitors could learn to use the featured products, so I designed a custom Education section, allowing the visitor to step through and share video content. The use of large fonts are also key to the brand, and huge model photos are used throughout the experience, taking full advantage of Squarespace's image hosting capabilities.

Anything else you want us to know about the site?: The launch event went off without a hitch; it was the parent company's biggest launch to date, and the first week's sales far exceeded all expectations.

Vendors used?: Only the Squareflair team (one Designer; one Developer) was involved in the entire project.
