Site Showcase: Nikra Centeno Photography

A certain song comes into my head when I see this image. Basically I want to reach my arms out and start singing like Maria in sound of music. The rest of this site also makes me think of all of my favorite things. From amazing imagery, great design, organization and gorgeous work!

Client's Site Description: Photography Portfolio

Template Chosen: Pacific

Why did you choose that template?: I chose Pacific because I knew I could get creative with the index page feature, allowing me to create unique page backgrounds and full width images throughout the site. Pacific is one of my favorite templates to use, because you can really mold it into whatever you want it to be! It's also a wonderful choice for photographers, as it is a great base for an image rich website.

What was the Client's Objective?: Nikra wanted to elevate her website to match the elegant and timeless style of her photography.

Tell us a bit about the design process?: Nikra had been working on a DIY Squarespace website, but became frustrated with not being able to get it to do exactly what she wanted. I ask each of my clients to tell me about their brand, and have them answer questions like if your brand were a person, what would they be like! These questions help me get a good idea of the look and feel their website should have. Nikra's images are SO beautiful, so I built the site to reflect her elegant, bold style.

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: We made her website image rich so that we could draw in potential clients easily at first glance upon landing on her site. I also made sure that the design would appeal to the exact client she was after through the use of patterns and textures.

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: I created several graphics to be used creatively throughout the site, including the home page navigation buttons, and several of the index section backgrounds. I also used custom CSS on the contact form. I always try and differentiate the contact form so that it doesn't appear like a template. I also styled the buttons to be thinner and wider, which contribute to a more upscale, elegant feel.

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: We used Nikra's imagery to create beautiful navigation features, which also contribute further to showcasing her work. We also placed instagram imagery in the footer, which isn't often done, but again, shows more of her work to her potential clients. Lastly, we used the index feature on most of her pages to carry through full width imagery to several other pages, and also help with some elements that have a "layered" look.
