Site Showcase: She's Kia
Simplicity is sometimes best when it comes to design, but with simplicity you have to have the cleanest design and the most perfect typography! It can be difficult to achieve. Kia has brought together a minimal palette, beautiful type and a few small details that keep her site branded!
Template Chosen: Mojave
Why did you choose that template?: wide-format, whitespace, paradox scrolling
What was the Client's Objective?: To create something clean and minimal to showcase images and design work
Tell us a bit about the design process?: Being that I don't know how to code, I had to pull from everything I knew to create a custom look. Thankfully, I wanted something super clean and minimal so the images and graphics I used brought life to the site. Color was brought in with the graphics, and then I grounded the site with more neutral, white-based brand photos I had taken A WEEK before I launched the site.
First, I started with home index page. I like to think of index pages as a summary of the site so I felt that once I added everything to that page, it would guide me on the other pages I'd include in my main navigation. Once I got the skeleton of the site complete, I started on the shop, which was a doozy due to all the graphics that I had to create. So I spent most of my time on that. My portfolio was also a major player. It's just a grid but design the individual project pages was what took up some time. Everything else was pretty simple. The copy was added, and finally all the images and graphics were added.
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: This site truly set the bar for creating a minimal yet eye-catching website experience. It shows that you don't have to have all the bells and whistle to attract visitors. It also shows how high res photos and well designed graphics can enhance your site. This design has been up for almost a week, and it's already brought in project inquiries, which was the goal!
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: I'm not well-versed in CSS so I did everything I knew how graphically to create custom look and feel.
What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: 1) graphics to showcases templates in shop
2) the sideways graphics to introduce each section "EST. 1987", "WELCOME", "PORTFOLIO", etc.
3) high res brand images
Anything else you want us to know about the site?: This site not only had to accommodate my business but also my lifestyle blog and overall brand. The Mojave template was perfect for all of that!
