Site Showcase: Sunbeam Jess
Sometimes we forget how much harder simple + bold design is to execute, and then we are sifting around looking for great inspiration for a site that makes an impact, while also drawing you in to read a blog or journal. Cat has mixed bold design with saturated color to create a kick-ass dynamic site for her client, and we are honored to share it with you! Make sure you pin this one y'all!
Client Site Description: Fashion and Lifestyle
Template Chosen: Brine
Why did you choose that template?: Brine is life! I love the flexibility and great customisation options.
What was the Client's Objective?: She wanted to create a fashion and lifestyle blog to support her already very successful Youtube channel. She wanted something unique and minimal to showcase her photography.
Tell us a bit about the design process?: Jess's blog was completely new so we had to start completely from scratch. We started with a Pinterest inspiration board and a branding/website design form I send to all of my clients. Jess liked really strong and bold colour palettes which is how we came up with the teal, orange and yellow and then after that she gave me a lot of creative freedom with the website.
I included a lot of the bold colour but also wanted to bring the focus to the photography by using big image blocks. The first website design I sent over she loved and from there we just made a few tweaks to get everything perfect and ready for lots of blog readers!
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: Jess was already very clear on her aesthetic and her target market from her experience on Youtube so I made sure I took a lot of her personal style and brought it into the design. The thing that differentiates her is herself so the more personality I brought into the design, the more stand out it was going to be.
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: I used custom CSS with the overlap image blocks on the home page to add bold colour behind each section and to add little tweaks which made the design a bit more unique. I think custom CSS is really important to make each SS design stand out so I try to use it as much as possible!
What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:
- My absolute favourite feature is the bold colour behind the image blocks on the home page which was created with a bit of custom CSS.
- The blog page is really interactive with readers able to flick through all the latest posts for each category.
- The parallax image at the bottom of the home page which links through to the About page to find out more about Jess.
