Template Chosen: Pacific

Why did you choose that template?: Honestly, cause I'm in love with this template, simply cause I love a striking centered logo!

What was the Client's Objective?: The client was debating leaving Squarespace, she just felt that her site didn't have the uniqueness to make her stand out from the crowd, it was lacking a brand worked throughout the site and she just didn't know who to achieve that by editing it herself - so we set to work!

Tell us a bit about the design process?: We set out with the mission to bring her branding across her site and add some beautiful touches to make her site unique. So first I dived into her branding files made by the talented designers at Indie Grace Design and took some elements to create some custom elements like divider bars including the flowers from her logo. I also set out to work with my favorite coder Viktor, over at Creative Resort on some features we were wanting with hover summary gallery images! As you will see from the menu structure we were aiming to put her images right in people's faces (in a nice way of course ;) at the forefront via easy access to galleries and blog entries all about her beautiful photos!

How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: While Squarespace has some great clean design going on (of course I LOVE Squarespace!) your site can also be brought to life with just small touches, but simple thing like adding a little custom code to have a hover affect over grid gallery images or summary block images which we did in this case, or custom lines, as well as custom buttons that match your branding font. Of course being a designer that specializing in branding people from start to finish with branding and logo design that's close to my heart - a cohesive look that's all across the board including your beautiful site that brings that visual brand to life is key in differentiating your business from all the photographers out there!

Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: Yes, I mentioned my pal Viktor, of Creative Resort before! While some custom code snippets can be found in other places, and I can mess around with it a tad myself, he's my lifesaver when it comes to making beautiful code adjustments and customizations like the hover affect on the featured blog posts on the homepage as well as the hover affect on the main blog page summary grid!

What are the top three creative features you used in the design?: Well I'm a big fan of custom dividers so that was my first go-to to bring in Suzanne's branding - rose gold and floral dividers! <3

Even simple thing like combining three portrait images to make a stunning different gallery image can add a great affect like you see on her homepage!

Also, taking the time to differentiate space as well as give text some hierarchy as far as structure and look like on her about page can have a more drawing affect to readers than just a giant daunting paragraph of all the same size and look text!

Anything else you want us to know about the site?: My client Suzanne Li - she's one rockin' photographer! Have you seen those beautiful fine art images?!?! <3 My clients make my job easy by being so amazingly talented!

Vendors used?: Viktor over at Creative Resort -
