Site Showcase: The Dana Rice Group
Client's Site Description: Real Estate Website
Template Chosen: Rally
Why did you choose that template?: My team and I love the flexibility of the Brine templates and have really been embracing Rally as of late. Since long scrolling home pages are the trend right now, we need to have the ability to create index pages. We also love to layer images and text on top of banner images, so this layout really works for us. Parallax scrolling is also a unique and interactive feature here and we like having the ability to play around with it to see if it enhances the look of a client's site.
What was the Client's Objective?: Dana Rice wanted to create an informative site, focusing more on her team's area of expertise and less on the actual listings - which is why we built out an extensive neighborhood guide.
Tell us a bit about the design process?: Since Dana works as an agent for COMPASS, it was imperative that we used the real estate company's branding as a foundation for the overall look and feel of the site. Our creativity was not limited at all because COMPASS incorporates modern design elements - graphics, textures and icons - into all of their marketing. However we wanted to personalize the site a little bit by adding a fun pop of color. Dana gravitated towards bright yellow from the start, which was the perfect complement to the minimalistic black and white.
How did you help the client differentiate their business through design?: As previously mentioned, we incorporated COMPASS' modern, yet minimalistic branding into the design, but still left room to personalize the aesthetic by adding pops of yellow. Dana also provided us with incredible photographs of herself and her team in action. The colors and playful vibes of the photos really helped to bring the site to life.
Is there custom development? What about custom added CSS? Can you tell us why you did or did not use these edits?: All of the graphics and background textures and images were created by our design team in-house. We were able to customize the site even more with CSS, which was used to import and display a unique footer background image on each page. The form on the Contact page was also customized to feature branded colors vs. the standard rectangular field elements.
What are the top three creative features you used in the design?:
1) Custom, branded graphics on all pages.
2) Unique image overlays on the homepage.
3) The use of Squarespace's new card image block layout (this is one of our favorite features!)
Vendors used?: Stock photos were pulled from Unsplash and, unfortunately Dana did not tell us the name of the photographer who took the amazing lifestyle shots of her team (we can probably find out prior to our site being published, if you would like to include this information.
